Officers said a preliminary investigation has revealed that a vehicle, which was occupied by five people, including two off-duty CPD officers, was parked in the area when an unknown individual exited another nearby vehicle and exchanged gunfire with people inside the car where the two off-duty officers were, striking a male civilian.

According to an initial report by Chicago police on Saturday, the victim was a 26-year-old man.

COPA said Wednesday that CPD later notified them that one of the off-duty officers inside the car had allegedly discharged a firearm during the incident.

Following the shooting, the officer who allegedly discharged their firearm was relieved of police powers by the department amid an ongoing investigation into the incident.
