CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Multiple Chicago-based packaged food giants are facing a lawsuit over alleged addictive products.
The lawsuit names Kraft Heinz, Slim Jim owner Conagra Brands, Oreo-maker Mondelez, and Pop-Tarts maker Kellanova, which are all based in Chicago.
The lawsuit alleges the companies knowingly make addictive products that cause illnesses but continue to make them in a reckless pursuit of profits.
The lawsuit calls the snacks “industrially produced edible substances that are imitations of food.”
It was filed by a Pennsylvania resident who claims he developed Type 2 Diabetes and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease when he was 16 because he often ate the companies’ products.
