(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Chicago Police are warning about a series of fake sales that turned into armed robberies on the Far South side.
In the four incidents this month, Chicago Police said unknowing victims arrange a Facebook Marketplace sale. At the sale one to three offenders approach the victim while armed with a handgun, announce a robbery, take the victim’s belongings, and then run away.
The suspects are described as wearing black clothing and ski masks.
Police say the crimes took place in the small area of 130th Street to 133rd Street and from Saint Lawrence Avenue to Greenwood Avenue.
Police remind people that if they are a victim of a crime like this they should not pursue assailants, to save surveillance video when available, and get contact information of witnesses who approach you.
Police say victims should also call 911 immediately and remain on scene if possible.
