EXCLUSIVE – Chicagoans send messages of hope, offers of help to New Orleans after tragic attack
CHICAGO, IL – People around the country woke up New Year’s Day to learn about the tragic terrorist attack which took place in New Orleans in the early morning hours which killed 10 and injured 35 including 2 officers. The perpetrator was identified as 42 year old Shamsud Din Jabbar, a Texas resident. Jabbar was killed when he climbed out of the truck after striking members of the crowd and began firing at police. Police returned fire, and Jabbar was hit and killed.
Chicagoans are definitely not strangers to violence in their city. A number of acts that labeled terrorist attacks were carried out in recent years in the Windy City. In 2022, a man from Maine and two teenagers planned a terrorist attack fueled by ISIS intending to kill all the adults at a Shia Muslim mosque outside of Chicago. While the attack was prevented, it struck fear into the entire community. Later the same year, a gunman on top of a building began shooting into the crowd gathered to watch a July 4th in Highland Park, a northern Chicago suburb. At least 6 were killed and at least 30 injured. To date, Chicago has been the target of dozens of terror plots and there seem to be almost constant bomb threats, orders to shelter in place because of a possible attack by an individual or group, and reports of shootings and other violence.
