Multiple people rescued from fire at a South Shore high-rise

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) β€” A fire broke out early this morning at a south side high-rise.

Fire officials say it happened on the 5th floor of a building at 74th Street and South Shore Drive.

Firefighters did make a number of rescues and were quickly able to bring the fire under control.

CBS News Chicago spoke with a resident named Melissa.

β€œIt was so thick in my apartment, room 409, a lot of smoke inhalation. I don’t know if my pet made it out or anything. My grandmother’s still on the ladder coming down,” she said.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
