4-time felon gets 65 years for murdering man in Humboldt Park while on parole for home invasion

CHICAGO – Justin Cortes, 29, a four-time convicted felon and reputed gang member, was sentenced on Monday to 65 years in prison for killing a man in Humboldt Park while on parole for a home invasion. Judge Thomas Byrne found Cortes guilty of murder and two counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm in October 2023, but post-trial motions delayed sentencing until now, according to court records.
