Chicago man, three teens charged in fatal April shooting

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Police arrested 20-year-old Marcus McGhee, of Chicago, and three teens for allegedly fatally shooting a man in April 2024.

McGhee, two 16-year-olds and a 17-year-old were all charged with first-degree murder on Jan. 8, 2025.

Police were called to the 1900 block of Price Street at 2:10 p.m. by multiple reports of a shooting in April. Crime scene tape was seen strung up across the roadway and evidence markers dotted the lawn and street.

Authorities said the victim suffered life-threatening injuries. He was taken to a local hospital where he died, police said.

The coroner later identified the victim as Letrevion Starnes. An autopsy concluded his cause of death was from multiple gunshot wounds.

Police said a white SUV was involved in the incident, and it was later found abandoned in the 1100 block of Jackson Street.

McGhee was captured in Chicago on January 2nd and is currently in custody at the Winnebago County Jail.

The teen suspects were all arrested in May on separate cases in May 2024.
