Jefferson County Coroner identifies man who allegedly shot and killed himself following car theft

Jefferson County Coroner Roger Hayse has identified the man who allegedly shot and killed himself after taking a car in rural Mt. Vernon last Thursday night as 20-year-old Carrion Holmes who is believed to have lived in both Mt. Vernon and Chicago. Hayse says an autopsy showed Holmes died from a single gunshot wound to the head. He reports the gun from where the shot was fired was found nearby. Holmes had been declared deceased at the scene.

The shooting occurred when a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputy was attempting to take him into custody.

Illinois State Police say the investigation remains active and ongoing and no further details are currently being released…
