CHICAGO — For more than two hours, a gunshot victim sat dead or dying inside an SUV on a Gage Park street Tuesday evening. His body was only discovered after a resident called 911 to complain because the vehicle had been running, double-parked, and occupied for so long.
Nobody called 911 to report gunshots in the area or another nearby police district, according to dispatch records. Had Mayor Brandon Johnson not disconnected the city’s ShotSpotter network in September, the gunfire detection system would have been active on the block, and first responders could have learned about the shooting without waiting for someone to complain about the victim’s double-parked car.
Cops went to the 5600 block of South California around 10:47 p.m. They found a dark green SUV parked in the street with bullet holes on the driver’s side and a man sitting unresponsive in the driver’s seat, according to a Chicago police statement…
