NWS Warning Illinois of Incoming Dangerous 30 Below Wind Chills

Illinois is about to enter what will hopefully be the coldest part of winter over the next few days as the National Weather Service is warning of incoming wind chills that could reach 30 below zero.

By now, you hopefully are aware that this brief warmup will be very brief. After reasonably pleasant temperatures on Friday, the thermometer is about to take a deep dive. The National Weather Service in Chicago specifically is warning everyone to look out for wind chills that are expected to get dangerous Sunday night into Monday and Monday night into Tuesday.

How dangerous is this wind chill that Illinois is about to experience?

Health experts estimate that it takes less than 30 minutes for frostbite to set in when the temperature is at zero. When you factor in the wind dropping the “feels like” temp that drastically, the time it takes for you to experience dangerous health decline in the cold is reduced to minutes. That means if you were to have vehicle trouble in the middle of this, any exposure outside to the elements will be dangerous.
