East Chicago, IN – A tense standoff ended peacefully early Saturday after police rescued a 1-year-old from a dangerous situation. Officers responded to a 12:45 a.m. call at a Fir Street apartment involving a suicidal man threatening to harm himself and his child.
The man warned officers he would shoot himself and the child if approached. East Chicago’s SWAT team and negotiators were dispatched to defuse the situation. Police communicated with the man for several hours before he exited the apartment with the child unharmed. …
