Baby boy who survived premature birth after mother’s fatal shooting dies

CHICAGO – A baby boy born prematurely after his mother was shot and killed in Portage Park has died, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner.

The baby boy survived for seven days before he died of “complications of prematurity,” according to officials.

The shooting happened that killed his mother happened at around 4:50 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 16 in the 5800 block of West Newport Avenue.
