My dad was a postal worker for much of his life and I have to wonder what he would think about some upcoming changes to mail delivery in Illinois. My guess is he would be ticked like many people will almost certainly be once they realize what’s going on.
I am not a USPS hater. My family was supported by my dad’s postal job for more than three decades so it gives me no joy sharing some changes that have just been announced that will impact pretty much everyone that gets mail including the millions in Illinois.
Newsweek just reported that the USPS has announced changes as the government continues its efforts at cost-cutting. First, the path of mail is now being broken down into 3 stages. That will slow some mail. Here are the estimates from the government:
- 75 percent of First-Class Mail will retain its current service standards.
- 14 percent of First-Class Mail will see an improvement in delivery times.
- 11 percent of First-Class Mail will experience slightly longer delivery times
The good news is that most mail will still be delivered in 1 to 5 days. I love the word “most”. Paint me skeptical about that 14% that will see faster mail delivery. I will believe that when I see it.
When will these mail changes begin?
The report says the first changes to mail delivery speed will begin on April 1 (April Fool’s Day!) and the second will be deployed starting in July…
