Chicago Man Detained Without Bail After Alleged 113 MPH Police Chase in DuPage County

A Chicago man’s ride at breakneck speeds, clocking at 113 mph during a police chase, ended with him behind bars and without the chance for pre-trial release. DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin shared that Judge Jeffrey MacKay favored the state in denying Kevin Culps, 28, any pre-trial freedom following his alleged flight from law enforcement that spanned multiple jurisdictions and ended in a cinematic finish with Culps leaping into a wooded area, according to DuPage County.

The incident unfolded in the early hours of March 21 when Culps, who hails from the 7800 block of Saginaw Avenue, reportedly bolted from a routine stop for a suspended registration in Downers Grove his journey took him onto I-88 where Oak Brook police joined the pursuit speeds soared near I-88 and Meyers Road with Berkeley Police later deploying spike strips to immobilize Culps’ vehicle and the chase ended with his attempted escape on foot from a twenty-foot wall into trees, the State’s Attorney’s Office narrated, as per DuPage County.

Adding to the high-drama chase, officers discovered a firearm along the path Culps allegedly took in his attempt to dodge capture, which has since been sent to the DuPage County Crime Lab for DNA testing. Capturing Culps was a collective effort, meriting thanks from Berlin to Downers Grove, Oak Brook, and Berkeley Police Departments, Berlin said, “it is alleged that in an utter display of contempt for the rule of law and complete disregard for public safety, Mr. Culps led police officers from multiple agencies on a 113-mph high-speed chase,” as stated by DuPage County…
