There are new concerns about the spread of what can be a life-threatening drug resistant yeast as Illinois appears to have become a flashpoint for cases.
Candida auris is constantly tracked by the Centers for Disease Control. It’s a dangerous yeast that the CDC says “can cause a range of infections from superficial (skin) infections to more severe, life-threatening infections, such as bloodstream infections“.
Their most recent map as of the date of this writing is extremely concerning for Illinois. It shows a staggering amount of cases of this bug in the Land of Lincoln.
Where in Illinois should be most concerned about this infection-causing bug?
The CDC says hospitals and other health care facilities can be places of risk for C. auris. Senior care residences can also be a dangerous place for cases of this to break out.
