HYDE PARK — Residents of Kenwood’s Indian Village met with local leaders Monday to protest the continued operation of a shelter for people experiencing homelessness.
The former Best Western hotel, 4900 S. DuSable Lake Shore Drive in Kenwood, opened last year as a shelter for asylum seekers and other unhoused migrants. The neighboring Lake Shore Hotel, also vacant, opened to migrants in late 2023 and closed in October.
The city announced in February that it planned to take over the Best Western shelter from the state starting July 1 and continue operating it as a shelter for all unhoused families through the city’s One System Initiative…
