Illinois House passed a bill to reduce plastics utensils that come with food deliveries

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WTVO) — Illinois legislators passed a bill in the House to reduce plastic utensils given by food delivery apps on April 10th.

DoorDash, among other food delivery food services, would no longer be able to automatically give customers plastic utensils with their orders. The bill would require the customer to request the utensils through the app.

One of the many representatives who sponsored the bill said it would save restaurants money and prevent plastic waste.

“Restaurants are very tight-margin businesses, and so for restaurants, this gives them the ability to just skip the stuff [and] not spend money on utensils unless the consumer wants it,” said Jenifer Gong-Gershowitz (D-Glenview)…
