SOUTH LOOP — A beloved South Loop movie theater is back under new management.
AMC Roosevelt Collection 16 opened Friday in the former Showplace Icon, 1011 S. Delano Court, nearly a year after the theater closed. AMC Theatres took over the space in November after its original operator, Kerasotes Showplace Theatres LLC, went out of business last year.
The theater will open with five screens, with 14 of its 16 auditoriums set to be open by May 2. The Dolby and IMAX auditoriums will open this summer. The company hopes to have all the auditoriums operational by August.
Fans of Showplace ICON will notice some changes: The bank of customer service windows has been replaced by a line of kiosks, VIP seating is no more and the 21-and-older bar and restaurant area will now be a MacGuffins, where moviegoers of all ages are permitted.
