Chicago Duo Charged with Attempted Murder and Series of Armed Robberies, Apprehended by Police and U.S. Marshals

Two young men from Chicago, aged 21, are facing a litany of charges, including attempted murder, multiple counts of armed robbery, and aggravated vehicular hijacking. The Chicago Police Department, in collaboration with the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force, apprehended James Robinson and Angel Contreras on Thursday. The duo has been tied to a series of violent offenses in July 2024, detailed in a report by Chicago Police News.

Robinson’s rap sheet, cited by authorities, notes a felony count of attempted first-degree murder and a host of other charges, which include eight counts of armed robbery and five counts of aggravated vehicular hijacking with a firearm. Contreras stands accused next to Robinson, slammed with a parallel charge of attempted murder and other felonies.

According to the official narrative, the two are believed to be responsible for the attempted murder of an off-duty Chicago Police officer during an attempted vehicular hijacking on July 23, 2024. The incident occurred early in the morning in Chicago’s 22nd District. Close in time and proximity, a 42-year-old woman also fell victim to an attempted hijacking and robbery.
