Illinois residents are excited because one of their favorite landmarks is being saved from being torn down.
Illinois’ Leaning Tower Is Saved From Destruction
Of course, I have memories from when I was a kid. One thing that sticks in my head is a handful of times every year we would go visit my mom’s cousin and her family. She had two daughters my age, and we would do some fun stuff.
Whenever we would go visit them, there was one landmark that would let me know that we were close. That was the Leaning Tower of Niles. It was a replica of the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy. I always thought was cool.
It’s funny because the historic landmark was part of a YMCA campus. Unfortunately, that location was shut down during the pandemic and never reopened. The land has been for sale.

Developers were interested in the property, but they wanted to tear down the Leaning Tower. That made residents upset. The city of Niles stepped up to save the day. They purchased the property and keeping the landmark.
