50-year sentence for leader of armed robbery and kidnapping crew that struck across Chicago and suburbs

A federal judge has sentenced a man to 50 years in prison for committing a string of violent kidnappings in the city and suburbs nearly six years ago. Sedgwick Williams, 48, worked with at least four accomplices, three of whom are awaiting sentencing and a fourth who has since died.

“Williams and his co-conspirators ruthlessly threatened, restrained, beat, robbed, kidnapped, terrorized, and tortured people for their own personal gain,” prosecutors said in a sentencing memorandum.

In addition to the three cases the group was charged with committing, federal prosecutors also linked them to a fourth robbery: a raid on a high-stakes poker game in the 3200 block of West Bryn Mawr on September 19, 2019…
