There is a move over law in Illinois for this very reason. Yet another Illinois trooper car was just slammed into this week by an alleged drunk driver as he was assisting another vehicle crash.
The Public Information Office of the Illinois State Police says that one of their officers was pulled off to the right shoulder of I-290 near Lavergne Avenue in Chicago on Tuesday, May 13 at around 7:42pm. He had his emergency lights on and was standing outside of his vehicle when a Dodge Charger struck his trooper vehicle. The report says that 40-year-old Cordell Franklin from Chicago, Illinois was the driver of the car that struck the trooper vehicle and has now been charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, Illegal Transportation of Alcohol, Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident, Improper Lane Usage, Following Too Closely, Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle and a Move Over Law violation.
The good news is that neither the Illinois State Police trooper or the driver that struck his vehicle was seriously injured…
