After 2nd late-night shooting in a week, downtown alderman wants a ‘more coordinated strategy’ for handling River North nightlife crowds

An alderman representing much of River North is calling for a “more coordinated strategy” to handle late-night crowds in the neighborhood. Ald. Brendan Reilly (42nd) made the announcement Monday, one day after the neighborhood saw its second late-night shooting in a week.

Shortly after Reilly distributed an email addressing the shootings, the Chicago Police Department announced that it was assigning a new commander to the Near North (18th) District. Christopher Bielfeldt will be the district’s third commander in less than two years.
