CHICAGO — Residents of a Far South Side apartment are picking up the pieces on Wednesday morning after their building was badly damaged in an overnight fire.
The blaze erupted overnight at an apartment building in the 9000 block of South Laflin Street, in Washington Heights.
While it is unclear exactly when the fire first started, crews were able to get it stamped out by around 5 a.m., but crews could still be spotted on the scene around that time as they searched for any remaining hot spots.
Officials have not yet said how many people lived in the building, or if they would be able to return home on Wednesday, but nearly all of the building’s windows appear to have been shattered either during the fire or the subsequent attempt to put it out…
