Democratic Mayor Slams ‘Detractors’ Amid DOJ Probe

The Department of Justice (DOJ) is investigating Chicago’s hiring practices after concerns arose regarding comments from Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson at the Apostolic Church of God. Johnson stated that his administration is the most diverse in the city’s history, noting that 45% of staff is Black, 25% is Latin, 30% is White, and 8% is Asian. The remarks have sparked scrutiny over whether his hiring practices favored specific groups.

Johnson said, “Business and economic neighborhood development, the deputy mayor is a Black woman… Department of Planning and Development is a Black woman… Infrastructure, deputy mayor is a Black woman… Chief operations officer is a Black man… Budget director is a Black woman… Senior advisor is a Black man.”

Johnson’s office expressed pride in its diversity. Alderman Raymond Lopez (D-15) raised concerns that some of Johnson’s policies may marginalize certain communities within the city…
