Armed police impersonator arrested near Chicago protest claimed to be State Department agent: prosecutors

A Matteson man jailed on allegations that he openly carried a firearm while dressed as a police officer at a protest in the Loop last week presented Chicago cops with forged documents that identified him as a State Department contractor, prosecutors said Sunday.

Willie Mathews faces charges of armed violence, false personation of a peace officer while armed, aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon, and forgery with intent to deceive.
