Subway restaurant robber busted with water pistol and a note saying “I have a gun. This is a robbery.”

Chicago police arrested a 19-year-old man after he allegedly robbed two Subway restaurants within 40 minutes on the Northwest Side. Emir Esenbekov, 19, faces two counts of aggravated robbery in connection with the robberies, which occurred early on June 9 in Norwood Park.

Prosecutors said Esenbekov first targeted the Subway at 5232 North Nagle around 1:40 a.m. by handing the clerk a demand note and fleeing with cash. Approximately 40 minutes later, he allegedly struck again at the Subway at 6352 North Milwaukee.

Chicago police, already alerted to the first robbery, had staked out the Milwaukee Avenue location and saw Esenbekov, who matched the description of the suspect, entering and exiting the restaurant. As officers approached Esenbekov, a store employee told them he had just robbed the restaurant…
