Family tracked down and beat man who robbed 14-year-old boy: prosecutors

A Chicago man has been jailed after allegedly robbing a 14-year-old boy of his iPhone, gym shoes, and hoodie at a West Side bus stop—then getting beaten up by the victim’s relatives when they tracked him down minutes later.

Dnario Brown, 18, is charged with robbery in connection with the June 16 incident, which unfolded near a bus stop at Roosevelt Road and Central Park Avenue, according to a Chicago Police Department arrest report and court documents reviewed by CWBChicago.

Authorities said the 14-year-old was walking at 2:40 p.m. on June 16 when four males approached him. One of the men asked for his sweater. When the boy ignored them and kept walking, the same man allegedly picked him up, prompting the boy to punch him in defense. A second man then allegedly rifled through the boy’s pockets and stole his phone, while others took his Nike gym shoes and hoodie—items the CPD report said were worth between $1,200 and $1,450.

The teen ran barefoot to his grandmother’s home nearby, and police were notified shortly afterward, according to the arrest report…
