Brothers sentenced in fatal shooting of WGN-TV security guard

CHICAGO (WGN) — Two brothers were sentenced Friday, following their convictions in the 2022 fatal shooting of a WGN-TV security guard.

Dameonte Watson and Gregory Watson each received lengthy sentences in connection with the murder of 35-year-old Salena Claybourne. Prosecutors say the brothers killed the mother of two amid a carjacking attempt in the 6700 block of S. Jeffery on Monday, March 7.

Claybourne was on her way home after completing her shift at WGN when she stopped for gas.

According to police, it was around 3 p.m., as Claybourne sat in her vehicle, that a black sedan pulled up next to her and someone inside opened fire. She suffered gunshot wounds to the left shoulder and face.

Paramedics rushed Claybourne to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead. She left behind two teen daughters. Claybourne was also the sister of a Chicago police officer.

The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office told WGN News that a judge sentenced Dameonte Watson to 30 years in prison on a first-degree murder charge, with four additional years for aggravated hijacking.
