Four people were murdered and 24 more survived gunshot injuries over the weekend across Chicago, according to HeyJackass, a site that independently tracks Chicago crime data using open source and official databases. The victims included five females and 24 males, ranging in age from 17 to 53 years old.
The total represents the second-best outcome for this same weekend since 2015. Only 2022 saw more victims—by one—but with more than twice as many fatalities, the site reported.
Among the notable incidents:
- A 24-year-old woman was shot during an armed robbery in the 400 block of West Wellington in Lakeview at 12:23 a.m. Sunday. Police said an SUV pulled up and three men got out. One of them pointed a gun at the woman and demanded her belongings. During a struggle, one of the men shot the woman in the abdomen before all three ran back to the SUV and fled.
- A 17-year-old boy was shot during a robbery attempt on an elementary school soccer field in West Rogers Park on Sunday evening. The case may be linked to other robberies in the area involving an offender who travels on a scooter.
- A 35-year-old man was shot during an argument in the Loop late Saturday night.
- A 41-year-old man was shot and killed early Sunday in the 800 block of North Cambridge, marking the second murder on that block in eight days.
