18 years for man who viciously stabbed Loop hotel employee

A man who viciously stabbed a longtime employee inside a Loop hotel has been sentenced to 18 years in prison.

Gregory Bell, 45, was found guilty of attempted murder and other charges following a bench trial before Judge Nicholas Kantas in May. On Wednesday, Kantas handed down the sentence.

The attack happened around 1 a.m. on May 29, 2022. Prosecutors said the 56-year-old victim, who had worked at the hotel at 171 West Randolph Street for 20 years, was arranging bedding materials in a service area when an elevator opened behind him…
