Charges filed after victim gets shot while disarming robber during online sale meetup

A 20-year-old man is facing felony charges after police say he shot a 19-year-old during a social media marketplace robbery Thursday night in Roseland.

Kewan Morrison, who lives on the same block where the robbery occurred, is charged with aggravated battery by discharging a firearm and armed robbery. Prosecutors are expected to present more details about the case at his detention hearing at 26th and California on Saturday afternoon.

Chicago police said the shooting happened around 10:45 p.m. Thursday in the first block of West 103rd Place. According to a preliminary CPD report, the 19-year-old victim arranged to sell a PlayStation console to a man who contacted them online. When they arrived, the supposed buyer confronted him with a rifle and announced a robbery.

As the victims fought to disarm the robber, the weapon reportedly discharged, striking the 19-year-old in his right calf and left forearm. Despite his injuries, police said the victim managed to subdue Morrison and hold him until officers arrived…
