Migrant gets 4 years for mugging 80-year-old, burglarizing a home while on pretrial release

A Venezuelan migrant who mugged an 80-year-old Bridgeport woman last summer, got released by a judge, and then burglarized a Chicago Lawn home just four days later has been sentenced to four years in prison.

Elio Redondo-Regas, 49, pleaded guilty to robbery of a victim over the age of 60 and residential burglary, court records show. Judge Peggy Chiampas ordered him to serve two concurrent four-year sentences.

Redondo-Regas was first arrested on August 2, 2024, after he mugged an 80-year-old woman in the 3000 block of South Wentworth. A Chicago police report said he rode up on a bicycle, wrestled away her purse, and snatched the hat off her head before pedaling away…
