Three men are facing burglary charges after they were caught inside a South Loop residential building, allegedly hammering and prying at a condo door for more than five minutes, prompting a resident to call 911.
According to court filings, Kontrell Jones, 35, Dominique Stokes, 33, and Marquis Williams, 37, entered the mailroom of a townhome complex in the 1700 block of South Prairie Avenue by passing an interior chain-link fence and forcing their way inside. A resident who was home spotted them on a security camera, watching as the men allegedly pried….and pried….and pried on a condo door. Another resident also called 911 to report “suspicious persons.”
Responding officers found all three men in a complex stairwell, with Williams couching behind a brick pillar before bolting down the stairs and out the door, a Chicago police report said. Two officers later arrested him in the 1800 block of South Calumet Avenue.
Police arrested Jones and Stokes at the scene. Both were wearing gloves, and officers found a screwdriver in Jones’ waistband, prosecutors said. Investigators later discovered a heavily damaged interior door with its handle and metal plate pried apart, as well as another townhome door bearing scratch marks, pry marks, and a missing handle…
