Rogers Park Tenants From 5 Buildings Form Union After Rent Spike

ROGERS PARK — Tenants from five Far North Side apartment buildings are organizing a union after a developer acquired their buildings and raised rents, with some reporting increases of $500 this year.

On Sunday, about 50 tenants and local organizers crowded the sidewalk in front of 6642 N. Clark St., one of five buildings now owned by developer Imran Khan of Ark Management Solutions. Renters from the Rogers Park buildings could start getting evicted as soon as Sept. 1, activists warned.

The rally was organized by the All Chicago Tenants Alliance and featured a variety of signs written in English and Spanish that called on Khan to lower rents to their previous prices. The newly formed tenants union is known as Fuerzas Activas De La Damen…
