Man on ankle monitor lured victim into ‘ambush’ murder at Altgeld Gardens: prosecutors

A man already on pretrial release for a felony gun case is now accused of luring another man into an “ambush” and “execution” killing on the Far South Side.

John Perteet, 38, has been charged with first-degree murder in the July 11, 2025, slaying of 43-year-old Prince Johnson. Prosecutors say Perteet used the very phone number tied to his electronic monitoring agreement to set up the deadly meeting.

Perteet had been wearing an ankle monitor since April 2024, when Judge Ruth Gudino released the convicted felon after he was allegedly arrested with a stolen Infiniti Q50 allegedly containing an AR-15 rifle, a pistol, narcotics, and 500 grams of cannabis.
