Woman shot while driving through Bridgeport

A woman was shot Tuesday evening while traveling in a car through Bridgeport, apparently the unintended victim of a gunman who opened fire during a confrontation nearby.

The 52-year-old woman was in the 600 block of West 31st Street around 5:20 p.m. when she suffered a graze wound to the chest. After being struck, she continued driving and pulled over in the 3000 block of South Union Avenue in her white Toyota SUV. She was transported to Stroger Hospital, where she was listed in good condition.

Witnesses told police they saw a group of men confronting another man nearby. The man who was being confronted reportedly pulled out a gun and fired shots, one of which struck the woman as she passed through the area.
