Chicago Police Issue Warning Amid Spike in Red Line Robberies Across Multiple Neighborhoods

The Chicago Police Department (CPD) has issued a community alert to CTA Redline customers about a recent spree of robberies impacting commuters across multiple neighborhoods. According to CPD’s notice, patrons in the South Loop, Chicago Loop, Greater Grand Crossing, and Fuller Park areas have been victims of these crimes, which have been occurring in the vicinity of the 1st (Central), 7th (Englewood), and 9th (Deering) Districts. The alert details how groups of approximately 2-7 offenders have been forcefully taking property from unsuspecting riders, then making their escape on foot or by the same means of public transportation they assailed — the CTA Red Line.

These incidents, occurring on late nights or early mornings, have specifically been reported at several locations, with the most recent ones logged at the 200 block of West 47th Street on both Tuesday and Thursday. Offenders, described as African American males and females in their late teens to mid-twenties, have been noted to abruptly engage their victims and then to quickly disappear into the night.
