Chicago Man Charged with First-Degree Murder in West Town Shooting Death

A Chicago man has been formally charged with first-degree murder following a fatal shooting in the West Town neighborhood last month. Antwan Mclaurin, 23, according to CBS News Chicago, was taken into custody on Tuesday afternoon. The victim, identified as Jimvonta Blossom, 24, was discovered inside a vehicle suffering from a critical gunshot wound to the head on August 2.

Responding to the incident around 11:40 p.m., authorities found Blossom critically injured on North Noble Street. Despite being quickly taken to Northwestern Hospital, he tragically failed to survive the injury, passing away afterward. A second victim, a 50-year-old male, was also found at the scene. He was shot in the thigh and calf but was reported to be in good condition at Stroger Hospital. The police have decided not to charge Mclaurin in connection with the second shooting as of now. Mclaurin is anticipated to appear in court on Thursday.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office has ruled Blossom’s death a homicide. This, together with the police reports, paints a grim picture of the night’s events. The exact motives and circumstances of the shooting are still under investigation. The case is ongoing, with no additional details released by the authorities…
