5 dead, 25 injured in weekend violence, but those numbers will likely to go higher

Chicago saw five murders over the weekend with 25 survivors of shootings, according to preliminary information from the Chicago police department. Those numbers are likely to go higher by 2 or 3 murders as detectives and the medical examiner’s office investigate the deaths of two children and a woman who were found dead in Lake Michigan on Saturday.

For now, though, the weekend’s performance is among the best for the same weekend since 2015, according to HeyJackass, a site that independently tracks city violence using open-source and official data. Over the past decade, only 2023 had fewer victims (1 dead, 25 injured) and 2019 had the same number of victims (6 dead, 24 wounded)

CPD said the deaths of the woman and children found in the Lake between 5700 and 6300 south “appear to be connected and appear to stem from a domestic dispute.”…
