27 shot, 4 fatally, over the weekend — fewer than last year, more than pre-pandemic

Twenty-seven people were shot in Chicago over the weekend, four of them fatally. The tally marks an improvement from the same weekend in recent years but remains higher than some pre-pandemic years.

Last year, the same weekend saw 40 victims, and in 2021 the weekend recorded a staggering 72 victims. But this year’s count outpaces the pre-COVID totals of 20 in 2019, 21 in 2018, and 16 in 2015, according to HeyJackass, a site that tracks Chicago violence using official and open-source data.
