$12,000 bakery order ends in man’s arrest

A Worth bakery became the setting for a failed shopping spree when a man tried to use a stolen credit card to buy thousands of dollars in goods, Palos Heights police said.

The case began Sept. 2 when a Palos Heights resident reported her new Wells Fargo credit card never arrived in the mail. She later received alerts for two attempted charges of $12,000 and $5,000 at the bakery. Both transactions were declined, police said.

Surveillance video showed a man attempting the purchases and arriving in a white Mercedes G-Wagon with Texas plates. Using License Plate Reader cameras, police tracked the vehicle to a luxury rental business, which then provided the renter’s information…
