On Friday, a 15-year-old boy became the latest to fall victim to Chicago’s pervasive gun violence. The shooting occurred in the Woodlawn neighborhood, a stone’s throw away from the premises of Mount Carmel High School. According to a report from the Chicago Sun-Times, the incident took place around 4:50 p.m. on the 6400 block of South Dante Avenue.
Upon their arrival, Chicago police discovered the teenage boy with a gunshot wound to the foot. While the precise circumstances leading to the incident remain unclear, mounting concerns over youth safety in school proximities are becoming hard to ignore.
