ICE agents block Catholic priests from entering Illinois detention facility

Religious leaders from a Catholic church in Chicago marched to an ICE detention center in hopes of giving detainees holy communion on Saturday. But they were turned away by authorities before they could provide the service.

Hundreds of Catholic priests, nuns, and churchgoers led the march from Saint Eulalia Catholic Church in Maywood to an ICE facility in Broadview. The demonstration comes as thousands of Chicagoans have gathered for weeks across the city to show their rage toward the latest immigration crackdown strategy, Operation Midway Blitz.

“We came out in great strength today,” Fr. David Inczauskis of the Coalition for Spiritual and Public Leadership said. “Catholics from all around Chicagoland have come out to support our sisters and brothers detained here.”…
