Man gets 4 years for ‘extremely dangerous’ robberies aboard CTA trains

A man a judge said “preyed on random victims on CTA trains” in the Loop and committed “extremely dangerous robberies” has been handed a four-year prison sentence.

Breon Edwards, 21, pleaded guilty to two counts of robbery and received concurrent four-year terms from Judge Shelly Sutker-Dermer. With credit for good behavior, he is expected to serve about two years in state custody, with an anticipated parole date of February 26, 2027.

Prosecutors said Edwards and a group of accomplices carried out two robberies just hours apart on September 16, 2024. Around 3:30 a.m., they allegedly targeted a 21-year-old man on the State-Lake platform. Then, at about 6 a.m., they robbed a 22-year-old man aboard a train near the Jackson station. Police said one accomplice kicked and punched the first victim, while another strangled the second, who required hospitalization…
