Armed rapist caught because he stole victim’s keys with AirTag attached: Chicago police

A 36-year-old parolee who allegedly raped a Logan Square woman at gunpoint during a violent home invasion was caught because he made one crucial mistake: he stole her keys, which had an Apple AirTag attached.

Chicago police said the AirTag led them straight to Lawrence Davison, who was walking on the South Side hours after the October 8 attack. Officers stopped him in the 400 block of West 77th Street and, while searching his black bag for the tracker, found a black Ruger .22 handgun and the victim’s ID, according to a CPD report.

Prosecutors said Davison forced his way into the woman’s home in the 2800 block of North Milwaukee Avenue around 11:30 p.m., pointed the pistol at her temple and mouth, and threatened to kill her if she made any noise. He sexually assaulted her twice before running off with her belongings, according to the allegations.

Judge Luciano Panici Jr. ordered Davison detained on charges of home invasion while armed with a firearm, committing a sex offense during a home invasion, two counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault while armed with a firearm, and being a felon in possession of a weapon…
