In a case reminiscent of a sprawling gift card scam that cost Chicago-area Home Depot stores more than $6 million, a Glen Ellyn woman stands accused of orchestrating an elaborate three-year refund scheme that defrauded a national retailer of more than $900,000 by exploiting the company’s return system and online sales policies, according to a newly unsealed federal criminal complaint.
Federal prosecutors say Iryna Boguslavska, 40, repeatedly bought high-end merchandise online, then returned the same items or look-alike products multiple times for refunds, and often falsely claimed the goods were lost in the mail to secure additional payouts.
