For the first few seconds, the home surveillance video looks like most any other: a parked car on a quiet street in West Garfield Park. But that’s all about to change. Inside that parked car, five men are waiting. Each of them is armed.
They sit quietly until a 16-year-old boy appears, gliding down the middle of the 4100 block of West West End Avenue on an electric scooter. His name is David Mason, known on the street as “Lil Dave.”
At 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, as Mason nears a speed bump that slows his approach, all four doors of the car pop open. The gunmen, dressed head to toe in black with hoodies raised over their heads, fan out and start firing. Mason instantly ditches his scooter and bolts out of frame.
