Man charged with stabbing victim during fight over who’d be next in line at Uptown post office

A 63-year-old Uptown man is detained after prosecutors said he stabbed a 24-year-old man three times during a bizarre confrontation that started over who would be next in line at a post office.

Prosecutors say Robert Higgs, of the 5200 block of North Sheridan Road, stabbed a 24-year-old man three times during the September 20 confrontation near the U.S. Post Office at 4850 North Broadway. The attack “almost” collapsed the victim’s lung, prosecutors said in a detention filing.

The alleged victim and his girlfriend went to the post office shortly after 9 a.m. to mail an item when Higgs entered and began arguing with him over who was next in line, prosecutors said. When the victim approached the service desk, Higgs allegedly told him to wait outside so they could fight…
