‘You Answer’: Union Slams Chicago Over ICE Standoff

The National Fraternal Order of Police and Illinois State FOP have criticized the Chicago Police Department (CPD) for allegedly directing officers not to assist Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents surrounded by protesters. They raised concerns about law enforcement’s responsibility to protect officers facing danger. The controversy has stemmed from the Illinois Trust Act, which limits local police from aiding federal immigration operations.

National Fraternal Order of Police President Patrick Yoes said, “Details are still emerging, but it appears that officers from the Chicago Police Department were ordered not to assist a group of ICE agents while they were physically threatened by what appeared to be an angry mob.”

Yoes added, “Let me be clear, both the National FOP and the Illinois FOP believe that when an officer calls for assistance, you answer, no matter what.”…
